Underwater Remote Sensing

Underwater imagery is useful in stand-alone surveys or in conjunction with data acquired by direct sampling. Versar scientists have collected underwater data using remote sensing technologies such as video imagery, still photography, and acoustic sensors. We are experienced with a variety of interpretation and analysis techniques from applying advanced classification algorithms to collecting point-count statistics to performing basic photo interpretation. Using sophisticated remote sensing techniques, Versar has achieved a variety of otherwise difficult objectives for our clients, including characterizing biological resources; mapping underwater debris fields; stratifying benthic habitats; and quantifying biofouling and non-indigenous species on ship hulls.
